Description
Adenovirus (ADV) is a kind of linear double stranded DNA virus without envelope, which has a wide range of cellular and tissue infectivity. The infection process is intense, and it is suitable for the experiment of high gene expression in a short time. Compared with other viruses, adenovirus has the advantages of long insertion segments and strong expression activity.
When used in vitro, adenovirus vector has high transgene efficiency (nearly 100% of the transgene efficiency) and can transduce different types of cells. It is a good tool for gene delivery of a large number of cells that are difficult to transfect. However, when used in vivo, because of its strong immunogenicity and severe infection, adenovirus often causes inflammatory reaction in local tissues of animals and immune response of the body, affecting the objectivity of animal signs and experimental results.
